Marina Adamiaaus modern

Marina Adamia (* 1959 in Tbilisi; Georgian SSR, Soviet Union) is a Georgian composer and music teacher.

Life

Marina Adamia received piano and composition lessons from Nodar Mamissashvili at an early age. After her school education in Tbilisi, she first went to the conservatory there. She continued her studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Edison Denisov and Nikolai Sidelnikov. Even before graduating in music theory and composition, she taught music history and harmony. After returning to Georgia, she worked at the Tbilisi Music College teaching music theory and harmony. In 1991 she went to study composition with Nigel Osborne at The University of Edinburgh and obtained a Ph.D. As a part-time lecturer there she taught composition, 20th century music and Georgian folk music. She was music director of the Akhaltsikhe Drama Theatre and worked at the Rustaveli Theatre. Since 2008 she has been a professor of composition at Ilia State University in Tbilisi, Georgia. Her compositions have been performed in Georgia, the other republics of the South Caucasus, Russia, the United Kingdom, Denmark and Germany.
