Motet

Motet is a genre of polyphonic vocal music that has been around since the 13th century. Over the centuries, the term has been used to describe different musical forms: Different text in the different voices and a recurring rhythm in the lower voice (isorhythm) characterise the early motet up to the 15th century; the later motet is typically sacred music in which instruments can also be added to the singing voices. The secular counterpart to the motet is the madrigal.
