Anna Anderluh (* 1988 in Klagenfurt am Wörthersee) is an Austrian singer, composer, performer and musician.

Life

Anna Anderluh studied violin from the age of nine and then viola and jazz viola at the Carinthian State Conservatory. She attended the Musikgymnasium in Viktring and then studied history, philosophy and psychology at the University of Vienna, but dropped out to study jazz singing at the Anton Bruckner Private University, Linz with Elfi Aichinger and Agnes Heginger (2008-2013). During this time she completed semesters abroad at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg and at the Norges Musikkhøgskole in Oslo.

Already during her studies, she founded the Dada – music theatre “Hans” together with the flutist Helgard Saminger.

In 2017 she received the annual scholarship of the province of Carinthia for music and performing arts, which enabled her to engage more intensively with acting alongside music after her studies. She participated in several interdisciplinary projects and theatre projects, including as a choir member at the Burgtheater in the production Antigone (directed by Jette Steckel), as an actress in “Das Schloss – nach Franz Kafka” (directed by Jakub Kavin) and as a singer and actress in “Vaginas im Dirndl”.

Her strong interest in the physiology and functioning of the voice and its various expressive possibilities led her in 2016 to the “Lichtenberg Institute for Applied Voice Physiology” where she completed the course in 2019. Since then, the physiological work with the voice, free of aesthetic guidelines, has been a great source of inspiration for her.

She is currently a member of the 13-piece band collective “Little Rosies Kindergarten” (Porgy & Bess Stage Band 2021/22), plays in various constellations with guitarist and songwriter Alex Miksch, in a duo with pianist and composer Verena Zeiner, in the quartet “Squamata” with Judith Schwarz, Lisa Hofmaninger and Matteo Haitzmann, is founder of the vocal ensemble “Hals – freefall a-capella”, singer with “Christoph Cechs Jazz Orchestra” and collaborates regularly with the accordionist and secret genius Stefan Sterzinger.

Since 2019, she has been part of the management team of the Fraufeld association together with Verena Zeiner, Sara Zlanabitnig and Milly Groz – to make female musicians visible in the fields of progressive composition and improvisation.

In 2020 she received the BMKÖS start-up grant for her musical work.

In 2021 she will release her first solo album, which she herself classifies in the genre “pop with a rift”. Her solo programme combines performative moments, socio-critical as well as poetic lyrics, touching songs with playful, refreshingly unusual vocal improvisations.
