Bushra El-Turkaus modern

Bushra El-Turk (* 1982 in London) is an English composer.

Life

Bushra El-Turk was born and raised in London to Lebanese parents who fled the civil war. Her parents encouraged her to learn a musical instrument at school. All she wanted to do was improvise and write her own music.

Bushra El-Turk studied composition at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama for five years. After graduating, she applied to various composition competitions and became a finalist in the Aberdeen Music Prize with her string quartet Eating Clouds in collaboration with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
