Maria Gstättner (* 1977 in Mürzzuschlag) is an Austrian composer, musician and artistic researcher.

Life

Maria Gstättner lives and works in Vienna and Burgenland. She studied music (bassoon), vocal pedagogy and cultural management in Graz and Vienna. In 2005, she completed her artistic diploma in bassoon performance at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Gstättner then focussed on instant composing and interpretation as well as interdisciplinary performance art. In 2016, she completed her artistic doctorate at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz. The composer completed her master’s degree in cultural management in 2017.

Werke von Maria Gstättner entstanden für zahlreiche namhafte Ensemble wie z.B dem Ensemble Kontrapunkte, dem RSO-Wien, dem Wiener Concertverein, the next step, dem ensemble plus+, Granmo/Berg und werden in diversen Kontexten aufgeführt z.B. wien modern, styriarte, steirischer herbst, cultural museum chicago, klangspuren schwaz, Musikverein Wien, Porgy & Bess Wien.

Her musical work ranges from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Graz Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Volksoper to contemporary ensembles such as Klangforum Wien, Ensemble Kontrapunkte, die reihe, Ensemble Phace, the Sonic Fiction Orchestra, Studio Dan – Verein für neue Musik, the Max Brand Ensemble, the Vienna Improvisers Orchestra and Aniada a Noa.
She also plays on the stages of the Burgtheater and Volkstheater Wien, performs internationally as a soloist and chamber musician and works in the fields of
interdisciplinary performance art and free improvisation.

She is active as an artistic-scientific researcher in the field of musical improvisation and teaches as a senior artist at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna.
