Susanne Hinkelbein (* 1953 in Stuttgart) is a German composer.

Life

After studying piano with Paul Buck at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, Susanne Hinkelbein studied German language and literature, psychology and philosophy. At the same time, she composed stage music for various choirs and theatres.

From 1980 to 1984 she was musical director at the Landestheater Tübingen, and from 1985 to 1990 musical director at the Schauspiel Köln. Since 1990 she has worked as a freelance composer and author. In addition to many pieces of stage music and other commissioned compositions, she has written operas, numerous choral works, about 200 songs, film scores, radio plays, melodramas, plays and musical installations in public spaces. Together with Ulrike Böhme, she founded the art and culture festival inter!m, which takes place at changing locations in the Swabian Alb. As a team with Böhme, she also curated the first two festivals in 2013 in the Alte Lager near Münsingen and in 2017 in the Heidengraben region near Grabenstetten, Erkenbrechtsweiler and Hülben.
