Sylvie Lacroix (* 1959 in Lyon, France) is a French-Austrian composer, flutist and music teacher.

Life

Born in Lyon, flutist (flute) Sylvie Lacroix studied at the Conservatoire Lyon, then at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where she graduated with distinction. She has lived in Vienna as a freelance flutist since 1980. She performs mainly as a soloist and chamber musician. Her artistic focus is on new music; in this context she regularly collaborates with composers. She is a founding member of Klangforum Wien and was also active in this ensemble until 1997.

Between 1990 and 2006 she was particularly involved in educational projects. In the course of this work she founded the summer course Musikpalette: chamber music for children and young people with a focus on New Music.

In addition to her involvement with new music, Sylvie Lacroix has many years of experience in historical performance practice (baroque transverse flute). She played in the Concentus Musicus Wien under the direction of Nikolaus Harnoncourt from 1985 to 1991. In the summer of 2005 she participated in the production of Mozart’s “Mitridate” with “Les musiciens du louvre” under the direction of Marc Minkowski at the Salzburg Festival. She is also a flutist in the ensemble Il Concerto Viennese.

She has been working on her own compositions for several years. She creates works for chamber music, as well as for flute and electronics.
