Carin Malmlöf-Forsslingaus modern

Carin Malmlöf-Forssling (* 6 March 1916 in Gävle, Sweden; † 11 September 2005 in Falun, Sweden) was a Swedish organist, choir director and composer.

Life

She was born in Gävle, Sweden, and completed her early studies in organ and directing in Uppsala in 1937. She continued her studies in composition with Melcher Melchers from 1941-1943 at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm. She graduated with a teaching degree in 1942, and then continued her studies in piano and composition with Nadia Boulanger in Paris. Malmlöf-Forssling completed her education in 1957.

From 1952 she worked in Falun as a piano teacher at the upper school of the grammar school. In 1970 she was elected to the Swedish Composers’ Association (FST) and was its only female member for many years. In 1987 she was awarded the Medal of the Musical Academy for the Promotion of the Art of Music and also received the Culture Prize of the Municipality of Falu, working scholarships from the Musical Academy and the Stockholm Arts Council, and a scholarship from the FST. She was voted “Composer of the Year” at the 1987 “Music in Siljan” festival. She was represented with her compositions at the Swedish Music Festival in 1976, 1982 and 1987 and at the Nordic Music Days in Reykjavik in 1976.

In 2002, she founded the Carin Malmlöf-Forssling Foundation for the benefit of Swedish art music, which has awarded the Carin Malmlöf-Forssling Prize to Swedish composers and musicians since 2007.
