Anne Metsalaaus modern

Anne Metsala (* 13 March 1934 in Tallinn; † 13 September 2015) was an Estonian music teacher and composer.

Life

She began her musical education privately with her aunt and her godfather Cyrillus Kreeg in 1943.
From 1949 to 1950 she studied piano at the Children’s Music School in Tallinn and from 1950 to 1952 at the Music School in Tallinn (both with Anna Klas). In 1953 she completed her studies (with Edgar Arro and Villem Kapp) at the Tallinn Music School with a diploma in music theory. In 1959 she completed her composition studies at the Tallinn State Conservatory (in the class of Villem Kapp and Mart Saare). From 1988 to 1989 she studied practical harmony at the Tallinn State Conservatory (with Olav Ehala).

Anne Metsala taught music theory and piano at the Tallinn Pedagogical Institute (1959-1960), at the 21st Tallinn Grammar School (1960-1962), at the Tallinn Music School (1961-1999), at the Tallinn Music School named after Georg Ots (1982-1997) and at the Tallinn Old Town Music Academy (1999-2006).

She wrote songbooks and the textbook “Solfedžo for Beginners: Grades I-II” (1996) and gave methodological lectures at teacher training courses. She was also deputy organist at the church in Oleviste.

Anne Metsala died on 13 September 2015 and was buried in the Rahumäe cemetery on 17 September 2015.
