Laura Netzel(* 1 March 1839 in Rantasalmi, Finland; † 10 February 1927 in Stockholm) was a Swedish composer, pianist and conductor.

Life

Laura Netzel was born Laura Constance Pistolekors on 1 March 1839 in Rantasalmi, Finland. She had come from Finland to Sweden when she was only one year old. She had studied piano with Anton Door. In singing and composition she had lessons with Charles-Marie Widor in Paris. Her pseudonym as a composer was N Lago, with which she first appeared in 1874.

At the age of 17 she had her first concert as a pianist. She had made a name for herself as a conductor of choral and orchestral concerts. Netzel also arranged various benefit concerts. Between 1892 and 1908 she arranged workers’ concerts (arbetarkonserter) in Stockholm. These concerts were held on Saturdays and at 25 ören were affordable for most Swedes.

She married the professor Wilhelm Netzel (1834-1914) in 1866.

Laura Netzel was the Stockholm correspondent for the French music magazine “Le Monde Musical”.
