Simone Plé-Caussadeaus modern

Simone Plé-Caussade (* 14 August 1897 in Paris; † 6 August 1986 in Bagnères-de-Bigorre) was a French composer, pianist and music teacher.

Life

Simone Plé trained at the Paris Conservatoire. At the institution, she obtained a first prize in piano in 1914 in the class of Alfred Cortot, a first prize in harmony in 1916 in the class of Henri Dallier, a first prize in music history in 1917 in the class of Maurice Emmanuel, a first prize in piano accompaniment in 1920 in the class of Abel-César Estyle, a first prize in counterpoint in 1920 and finally a first prize in fugue the following year in the class of her future husband, Georges Caussade.

She married Georges Caussade on 13 December 1928 in Paris, twenty-four years her senior. She became a solfeggio teacher for instrumentalists on November 1, 1928, and was granted tenure in 1935. She succeeded her husband as professor of fugue at the Paris Conservatoire on his death in 1936, a position to which she was appointed on 15 November 1939. As a composer she wrote mainly for the piano, as well as organ pieces, choral works, numerous melodies and religious music.

Gilbert Amy, Xavier Darasse, Betsy Jolas and Jean-Pierre Leguay studied composition with Simone Plé.
