Maria Louise de Mattos Priolli (* 24 May 1915; † Rio de Janeiro 2000) Brazilian music teacher and composer.

Life

Maria Luiza Priolli was born in Rio de Janeiro on 24 May 1915.

She began her musical studies under the tutelage of her mother. She graduated from the National Institute of Music, where her teachers were Mary Alice Rumley (piano), Añelo França (harmony), João Otaviano (composition) and Francisco Mignone (conducting). She then continued her training in London under the direction of Grenville Bantock.

She taught at the National Institute of Music from 1937, was a professor from 1946, and was director there from 1976-1980.

Priolli was the author of a textbook on solfeggio (port. Solfejos melódicos e progressivos; 1951, in two volumes) and the textbook “The basic principles of music for young people” (port. Princípios básicos da música para a juventude; 1953), which was reprinted several times.

Her catalogue of works includes a piano concerto, a trio and a quartet.
