Sofie Rohnstockaus expressionism + modern

Sofie Rohnstock (* December 25, 1875 in Vienna; † December 26, 1964 in Leipzig) was an Austrian-German composer and piano teacher.

Life

Rohnstock was born in Vienna.
She studied music at the Leipzig Conservatory (now the Leipzig University of Music and Theater) with Max Reger and Carl Reinecke.
Her piano trio (for piano, violin and cello) was awarded a prize by the then Academy of Arts (now Berlin University of the Arts).

In addition to her work as a composer, she also gave piano lessons. During the Second World War, her apartment was bombed and most of her manuscripts were destroyed, including the piano trio, two symphonies and quartets for woodwinds and strings.

In 1960, Rohnstock wrote Memories of Max Reger, which was published by the Max Reger Institute.

She died in Leipzig in 1964.
