Martina Schäfer (* 6 April 1952 in Düsseldorf) is a German-Swiss writer and composer.

Life

Martina Schäfer was born in Düsseldorf, Germany, in 1952.
Her mother played the cello in the “Orchestra of the State Government” and was a member of a string quartet. Her grandmother taught piano and was an organist in a small town in southern Germany.

First she received flute lessons, later singing and piano lessons.
After graduating from high school, Martina Schäfer studied musicology, education and German literature at various universities. In 1986 she received her doctorate in German Literature from the University of Bremen, and over the years added further degrees in prehistory and theology.

During her studies she taught for many years, the recorder family as well as rhythmic-musical early education at various youth music schools.
Love drew her to Switzerland, where Martina Schäfer took singing, composition and organ lessons, was a member of a choral choir and sings in a chamber choir, a small opera choir ensemble and the St. Gallen Cathedral Choir.

The first of her larger compositions were published by the publishing house “Müller & Schade” in Bern in 2011.
