Annette Schlünzaus modern

Annette Schlünz (* 23 September 1964 in Dessau) is a German composer.

Life

Annette Schlünz received musical and dance lessons (recorder) at the age of four and took part in numerous plays, operas, operettas and musicals at an early age (also in the children’s choir). There are first musical records of the five-year-old. From 1971 she received lessons at the Dessau Music School in recorder and piano, and from 1976 also in oboe. At the same time, she received instruction in music theory and, at the age of twelve, became a member of the Halle Composers’ Class founded by Hans-Jürgen Wenzel. Annette Schlünz received additional composition lessons around this time from Günther Eisenhardt and Dietrich Boekle. She also wrote her first pieces, which were performed in public.

From 1983 Schlünz taught herself in the children’s composition class and from that year studied composition (Udo Zimmermann), piano (Heidrun Richter) and composition/modern techniques (Wilfried Krätzschmar) at the Hochschule für Musik Carl Maria von Weber Dresden. During her evening studies, she also learned conducting with Rudolf Neuhaus and studied electronic sound production in depth in the studio of the Dresden University of Music. In 1987 she became a research assistant to Udo Zimmermann at the Dresden Centre for Contemporary Music and taught composition and ear training at the Dresden Academy of Music. From 1988 to 1991, Annette Schlünz was a master student of Paul-Heinz Dittrich at the Academy of Arts in Berlin. Meetings with Iannis Xenakis in Darmstadt and Helmut Lachenmann in Stuttgart also became important.

In 1986 and 1989 she visited the Bartók Festival in Szombathely/Hungary and was a guest student of the conductor and composer Péter Eötvös. In 1988 Schlünz travelled abroad for the first time, where she took part in the festival “Komponistinnen gestern-heute” in Heidelberg. In 1990 and 1992 she attended the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. In 1990 she was awarded the Hanns Eisler Prize, in 1997 she received a scholarship from the Villa Massimo in Rome, and in 1998 she was awarded the “Heidelberger Künstlerinnen-Preis”. She has received numerous commissions for compositions, including from the “Gruppe Neue Musik Hanns Eisler”, the “Scharoun Ensemble”, the Rundfunk-Sinfonieorchester Berlin, the ensemble “Les Percussions de Strasbourg” and several festivals. She has also been invited to music events in the USA, South America and Vietnam. Since 2010 she has been a member and since June 2015 secretary of the Music Class of the Saxon Academy of Arts. In 2011, Annette Schlünz was appointed a member of the Freie Akademie der Künste in Hamburg.
