Iris Szeghy (* 5 March 1956 in Prešov) is a Slovakian-Swiss composer.

Life

Iris Szeghy comes from a Hungarian family and grew up in Slovakia. She completed her composition studies at the Bratislava Academy of Music in 1989 with a dissertation under Ivan Hrušovský. After the fall of communism, scholarships and composition residencies took her to various European countries and the USA – including the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart, the Hamburg State Opera, the STEIM Studio in Amsterdam, the University of California in San Diego, the Künstlerhäuser Worpswede near Bremen, the Künstlerhäuser Boswil, Willisau, Stein am Rhein in Switzerland, the Fundación Valparaiso in Mojácar in Spain, the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, the studios of the Swiss Landis & Gyr Foundation in London and Budapest, etc. Iris Szeghy has lived and worked as a freelance composer in Zurich since 2001.

Szeghy’s catalogue of works includes orchestral, chamber music, solo and vocal works, which are performed in concerts and festivals worldwide. She has received commissions from the Bratislava Music Festival, the Hilliard Ensemble, the Pro Helvetia Cultural Foundation, the Musikpodium Zürich, the Melos-Ethos Festival and numerous ensembles and musicians worldwide.
