Alice Tegnéraus modern

Alice Charlotta Tegnér (* 12 March 1864 in Karlshamn, Sweden; † 26 May 1943) was a Swedish music teacher, poet, organist and composer. She is the most important composer of Swedish children’s songs of the late 19th century and the first half of the 20th century.

Life

Alice Charlotta Tegnér was born on 12 March in Karlshamn a small town in the south of Sweden. She was the daughter of the ship’s captain Eduard Sandström (1829-1879). She composed her first melodies on her father’s piano, which he kept in the cabin of his ship. As she was very musical, she was given piano lessons. Later Alice Tegnér trained as a teacher in Stockholm. She taught at Djursholms samskola.
