Laura Vega (* 18 April 1978) is a Spanish composer.

Life

Laura Vega was born on 18 April 1978 in Gran Canaria, Spain. She began her musical studies at the age of four with Francisco Brito at the music school in her home town. She was later accepted into the Conservatorio Superior de Música in Las Palmas and took composition lessons with Daniel Roca and Xavier Zoghbi. After graduating in piano, oboe and music theory, she continued her studies with José Luis de Delás at the University of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid, Spain) and with José Mª Sánchez Verdú at the Soto Mesa School of Music (Madrid, Spain). In 2016 she completed her doctoral studies at the University of La Laguna (Tenerife, Spain).

Her catalogue includes more than seventy works. Her recordings have been released on labels such as Ibs Classical, Neos, Naxos, RALS, Piccolo, Centro de Documentación Musical de Andalucía, SGAE, Fundación Autor, etc. Among her works are the Concerto for oboe and two orchestral groups (commissioned by Fundación Autor, SGAE and AEOS), Imágenes de una isla for orchestra and silbo gomero (commissioned by the Cabildo de La Gomera), In Paradisum, concerto for piano and orchestra (commissioned by the 26. Festival de Música de Canarias), Pater Noster for choir and string orchestra (Honourable Mention at the IV Premio Internacional de Música Sacra Fernando Rielo), Ángel de luz, double concerto for percussion, string orchestra and harp (commissioned by the Fundación SGAE and the AEOS), Galdosiana for orchestra (commissioned by the Joven Orquesta de Canarias and the Orquesta Nacional de España) and Luz, Amor y Éxtasis, concerto for guitar and orchestra (commissioned by the 39. Festival Internacional de Música de Canarias). He has worked with conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, Michail Jurowski, Lü Jia, Pedro Halffter, Georg Fritzsch, Juanjo Mena, Antoni Ros-Marbà, François López-Ferrer, Carlos Miguel Prieto, José Luis Temes, Maxim Emelyanychev, Lucía Marín, Manuel Busto, Lucas Macías, Guillermo García Calvo, Andrés Salado, José Luis Gómez and others.

Between 2008 and 2011 she was president of the Las Palmas Promuscán Composers’ Association. Between 2003 and 2021 she was Professor of Composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Canarias. She currently teaches at the Conservatorio Profesional de Música de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. She has been a member of the Royal Canarian Academy of Fine Arts (RACBA) since 2011.
