Isabel Mundryaus modern

Isabel Mundry (* 20 April 1963 in Schlüchtern) is a German composer.

Life

Isabel Mundry studied composition with Frank Michael Beyer and Gösta Neuwirth at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin and with Hans Zender at the Hochschule für Musik Frankfurt am Main. In 1994 she took a course in music informatics at IRCAM in Paris.

From 1986 to 1993 Mundry taught music theory and analysis at the Berlin Church Music School and at the Berlin University of the Arts. In 1996 she took over a professorship for composition and music theory at the Musikhochschule Frankfurt. Since 2004 she has been professor of composition at the Zurich University of the Arts. In addition, she took on a half professorship in composition at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich in the 2011/12 academic year. Mundry is a member of the advisory board of the Studien zur Wertungsforschung.

Mundry’s works are characterised by an individualised and differentiated musical language that is rich in variation and nuance: “Virtually nothing is repeated in Mundry’s compositions; the same thing always turns out differently.” Internationally important orchestras and ensembles have performed Mundry’s works. Her music theatre A Breath – Odyssey was premiered at the Deutsche Oper Berlin in September 2005. This production was chosen by the critics’ jury of the professional journal Opernwelt as “World Premiere of the Year 2006”. In the 2007/2008 season Mundry was Capell-Compositeur with the Sächsische Staatskapelle Dresden.
