Nuria Núñez Hierro (* 7 September 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain ) is a Spanish-German composer.

Life

She began her training at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Córdoba with professors Juan de Dios García Aguilera and Francisco Martín Quintero.
In 2008 she moved to Berlin to begin her Master’s degree in composition with Elena Mendoza at the Berlin University of the Arts, graduating with distinction.

She received scholarships from the Fundación La Caixa and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the Consejería de Cultura de la Junta de Andalucía and the Fundación Autor.

She completed her training at various festivals throughout Europe, such as the IRCAM-ManiFeste (Paris), the RSO Stuttgart’s master class in orchestral composition or the Cátedra Manuel de Falla, as well as in courses and master classes with composers such as Iris ter Schiphorst, Walter Zimmermann, Arnulf Hermann, José María Sanchez-Verdú, Rebecca Saunders, José Manuel López López, César Camarero and Mauricio Sotelo.

In 2014, she won one of the postgraduate scholarships of the Graduate School of the Berlin University of the Arts, which allows her to specialise in stage projects for children.

In addition, Núñez Hierro has completed a Master’s degree in Music Research at the International University of La Rioja and is currently a PhD candidate in Musicology at the Complutense University in Madrid.

She also holds a degree in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Córdoba.

She is dedicated to composing and has written works for soloists, chamber music and orchestra. They have been performed in Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Russia, Mexico and Colombia by ensembles such as Ensemble Intercontemporain(FR), Ensemble Ascolta(DE), Studio New Music Ensemble of Moscow(RU), Trio Transmitter(DE), Orbis Trio(CZ), Taller Sonoro(ES), B3: Brouwer Trio or the Liminar Ensemble(MX) and orchestras such as the RSO Stuttgart, the Jena Philharmonic, the Loh-Orchester Sondershausen, the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España, the Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla or the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga.

In recent years, her commitment not only to reaching new audiences but also to creating new repertoire for today’s audiences has led her to work on proposals that involve young audiences, such as the residency at the Rundfunk Sinfonieorchester Berlin (RSB) for the project Rapauke macht Musik, the opera Kleines Stück Himmel for children aged 2 and up commissioned by the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the video opera La Isla for audiences aged 11 and up commissioned by the BBVA Foundation, the opera with shadow theatre El sueño del señor Rodari for audiences aged 6 and up at the Spanish Academy in Rome and Bestiarium, interactive music theatre for audiences aged 6 and older, a co-production between the Graduate School of the Berlin University of the Arts, the Berlin Senate, the Einstein Foundation, the House of World Cultures, the Volksbühne Berlin and the ensemble DieOrdnungderDinge.
