Mirjam Tally (* 28 November 1976 in Tallinn, Estonian SSR) is an Estonian-Swedish composer.

Life

Mirjam Tally graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music in Tallinn in 2000, studying with Lepo Sumera. From 1998 to 2004 Tally was a freelance presenter at the public radio station Klassikaraadio and from 2003 to 2006 editor of the Estonian music magazine Muusika. Since autumn 2006, Mirjam Tallinn has been living and working in Visby on the Swedish island of Gotland.

Mirjam Tally’s compositions often mix chamber music with electronic music. She uses instruments of Nordic folk music (such as the Estonian kannel) as well as exotic instruments (such as didgeridoo or tanpura). Occasionally, texts by Estonian lyricists, such as Hasso Krull, Elo Viiding and Indrek Hirv in particular, are a source of inspiration.

Mirjam Tally has been a member of the Estonian Composers’ Association since 2000 and of the Swedish Composers’ Association (FST) since 2007.
