Anna Clyne (* 9. März 1980 in London) ist eine englisch-amerikanische Komponistin.

Leben

Clyne begann bereits als Kind Musik zu schreiben und vollendete ihre erste Komposition im Alter von elf Jahren. Sie studierte an der University of Edinburgh. Dort erlangte sie einen Bachelor of Music Abschluss mit besonderer Auszeichnung. Später studierte sie an der Manhattan School of Music und schloss mit einem MA in Musik ab. Ihre Lehrer waren unter anderem Marina Adamia, Marjan Mozetich und Julia Wolfe.

Clyne war von 2008 bis 2010 Leiterin des New York Youth Symphony’s „Making Score“ Programm, welches sich an junge Komponisten richtet. Im Oktober 2009 wurden Clyne und Mason Bates als Co-Composers in Residence beim Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO) ernannt. Nach ihrer Zeit beim CSO wurde Clyne als Composer in Residence für das Orchestre national d’Île-de-France und von 2014 bis 2016 für das Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Clyne war 2015 für den Grammy Award für Best Contemporary Classical Composition für ihr Doppel-Violin-Konzert, Prince of Clouds nominiert. Des Weiteren hat sie zahlreiche prestigeträchtige Preise gewonnen, wie zum Beispiel den Hindemith-Preis 2016, 2010 den Charles Ives Preis der American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Her teachers included Marina Adamia, Marjan Mozetich and Julia Wolfe.

Clyne was the director of the New York Youth Symphony’s “Making Score” programme, which is aimed at young composers, from 2008 to 2010. In October 2009, Clyne and Mason Bates were appointed Co-Composers in Residence with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (CSO). Following her time with the CSO, Clyne became Composer in Residence for the Orchestre national d’Île-de-France and from 2014 to 2016 for the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Clyne was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Classical Composition in 2015 for her double violin concerto, Prince of Clouds. She has also won numerous prestigious awards, including the 2016 Hindemith Prize, the 2010 Charles Ives Prize from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.
