Calliope Tsoupakiaus modern

Calliope Tsoupaki (Greek Καλλιόπη Τσουπάκη Kalliopi Tsoupaki, * 27 May 1963 in Piraeus) is a Greek-Dutch composer.

Life

Tsoupaki studied piano and music theory at the Athens Conservatory and was a composition student of Yannis Ioannidis. She then studied at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague with Louis Andriessen until 1992. Her compositions were performed at the Festival New Music in Middelburg (USA, 1990 and 1992) and the Gaudeamus International Music Week in Amsterdam (1991 and 1993).

In 1993 she won a three-month Budapest residency from the Fondation Pepinières. Since then she has lived in Amsterdam. In addition to chamber music works and songs, Tsoupaki has composed a St Luke Passion. In this work, which was premiered at the Holland Festival in 2008, she drew on Byzantine melodies.
